Hi everyone,

Lochloosa is one of the best wildlife areas in all of Florida and its basically in our backyard, just south of Hawthorne. Here's a song about it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=uCDQ2M BCBbs For those of us who like to fish, it is peak speckled perch season and Lochloosa Lake is full of them. Specks are a med-small fish, up to 5 lbs but usually about 1 lb. They are the best pan-fish for eating and easy to fillet. The weekend of the 20th is a full moon weekend with expected lows in the mid 50s, should be perfect timing to hit the spawn.

We're going to leave the gear shed early Saturday morning at 6:45, please try to arrive early. Its about a 30 minute drive to the public boat ramp/bait shop in Lochloosa, will park here and pickup minnows and any other gear you don't have. From there we'll load all the gear into the boats and start fishing. I'm thinking 2 people per canoe should work to fit the gear. We'll eventually make our way to a hidden clearing I know of and set up primitive camp, hopefully the water will be high enough to paddle in easily but bring shoes that you don't mind getting muddy. After camp is setup we'll get back on the water to hopefully finish catching dinner before coming back for a potluck. Sunday we pack up camp, do some exploring and a few more casts, heading home sometime around noon.

You will need to bring all the usual camping items plus food and water for the whole time. It's a low of about 50 so bring a jacket but a high of 77. Bring a fishing pole. I have a couple extra, let me know if you need one and I'll let you know. Parking is $2 per vehicle per day and gas will be a couple dollars each so bring some singles. Anyone fishing ought to have a fishing license.
